CVC teams advance in postseason play

The girls’ basketball playoffs continued on Wednesday with seven of 12 Chagrin Valley Conference teams extending their season with a win.

Berkshire, Cardinal, Chagrin Falls, Hawken, Lutheran West, Trinity, and West Geauga all won their sectional semifinal games and will compete for a sectional title on Saturday.

The Badgers defeated Mogadore, 48-31, in a Division III contest. Lydia Kastor led the team with 17 points and Maddy Triskett also scored in double figures with 10. The Badgers will play at Rootstown on Saturday.

Berkshire cruises past Mogadore in postseason opener

Cardinal defeated visiting St. John, 63-30, and will play at top-seeded Bristol on Saturday. Ronee Collins and Lindsay Hiss both scored in double figures for the Huskies with 21 and 16 points, respectively. Collins also tied a school record with five 3-pointers in a single game and Hissa pulled down 23 rebounds for the second time this season. Haley Domen added nine points and Hailey Keller finished with seven points and eight rebounds.

Peyton Gellin scored nine points to lead Chagrin Falls to a 33-30 win over CVC rival Harvey. Lilly Stukus added eight points in the win. Zharia McMullen led Harvey with 10 points and Tamia Alston pitched in with six. The Tigers will travel to West Geauga on Saturday for the rubber match between these league rivals.

Chagrin Falls holds off Harvey in playoff opener

Kate Bollinger and Sarah Liu both scored in double figures as Hawken topped Cleveland JFK, 67-23. Bollinger scored 12 points with two 3-pointers and Liu scored 11 with three 3s. Elizabeth Stupica added nine points for the Hawks, who host Bay on Saturday.

Lutheran West pounded Clearview, 52-32, and will play at neighborhood rival Rocky River on Saturday. Evelyn Albers led Lutheran West with 14 points and Arry Esposito added 13.

Trinity roughed up Black River, 68-31, and will host Canton Central Catholic on Saturday. Mahogany Cottingham, Macaiah Irving, and Rani Thigpen all scored in double figures with 27, 19, and 11 points, respectively, for the Trojans.

West Geauga had little trouble dispatching visiting Youngstown Chaney. The Wolverines won the sectional semifinal, 79-14, and will host Chagrin Falls in a sectional championship game on Saturday. Maggie Furst scored a game-high 25 points for the Wolverines while Alexa Hocevar and Heavenly Glover also scored in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
