CVC lands 14 teams in football playoffs

The OHSAA’s expansion of the high school football playoffs from eight to 16 teams benefited the Chagrin Valley Conference as 14 teams from the league will play in Week 11.

Among the teams that qualified for the playoffs are seven who earned a first-round home game including Perry, Lutheran West, Kirtland, Crestwood, Cardinal, Independence, and Cuyahoga Heights.

Perry (8-2) earned the No. 4 seed in Division IV, Region 13 and will host No. 13 Canal Fulton Northwest (6-4) on Friday.

Lutheran West (8-1) earned the No. 8 seed in Division IV, Region 14 and will host No. 9 Sandusky Perkins (7-3) on Friday.

Kirtland (9-0), the defending Division V state champion, drew the No. 1 seed in Division V, Region 17 and will host No. 16 Cadiz Harrison Central (4-6) on Saturday. Crestwood (6-3) earned the No. 7 seed in Region 17 and will host CVC rival Berkshire (6-4), the 10th seed, in a rematch of a Sept. 24 game won by Crestwood.

No. 5 Cardinal (7-3) hosts No. 12 Jeromesville Hillsdale (6-4) on Saturday in a Division VI, Region 21 showdown.

Independence (8-2) earned the No. 5 seed in Division VII, Region 25 and will host No. 12 Toronto (5-5). No. 6 Cuyahoga Heights (5-3) will host No. 11 Youngstown Valley Christian (7-2). Both games are on Saturday.

Lakeside (5-4) earned the No. 13 seed in Division II, Region 5 and will travel to No. 4 Hudson (8-2) on Friday.

No. 14 Harvey (5-4) travels to No. 3 Kenston (9-1) and No. 9 West Geauga (7-3) will play at No. 8 Streetsboro (7-2) in Division III, Region 9 games on Friday.

Hawken (5-5) landed the No. 15 seed in Division IV, Region 13 and is headed to No. 2 VASJ (6-1) on Friday.

Saturday’s other games feature No. 14 Brooklyn (4-6) at No. 3 Bloomdale Elmwood (8-1) in a Division V, Region 18 contest and No. 16 Trinity (3-7) at No. 1 Leavittsburg LaBrae (9-1) in a Division VI, Region 21 game.
