Late goal results in Berkshire win over Wickliffe

Allie Barcikoski’s goal late in the second half was the difference in Berkshire’s 1-0 win over visiting Wickliffe on Tuesday.

The Badgers, who improved to 3-1, amped up their pressure late in the second half and finally broke through for the decisive goal.

“We controlled the ball and pressured them for a strong majority of the game and looked pretty good in possession,” Berkshire coach Ian Patterson said. “However, we struggled to finish our easy chances early in the game and the second half until a ball poked through the middle.”

Sarah Wendl recorded five saves for the Badgers while Wickliffe’s Kaylee Lauriel blocked 13 shots.

“This can be a valuable game for us, come later in the season,” Wickliffe coach Steve Gribovicz said. “We will strengthen up some weaknesses we saw in our game and come out a stronger team because of it. We matched the physical test against a competitive Berkshire team, but unfortunately for us, they came out on top this game with a well-earned victory.”

Wickliffe dropped to 2-2.
